Doug has spent his entire life on Edgar Farms. He went to school in Innisfail, then off to Olds College where he graduated in the Agriculture Mechanics program. After spending one winter as a mechanic, while still working at home on the weekends he came back to the farm. In the fall of 1974 he married his best friends little sister Elna, whom he had met when she was 5 years old. Together they started a partnership that has come a long way since then. They raised two daughters, one that has returned to the farm. They have taken over Doug’s parents’ farm and expanded the acreage, they built up a cow herd to over 250 head at one time, and added many new and interesting crops to the portfolio. With such a diverse mix of enterprises Doug’s main focus is running the grain farm and also both doing maintenance and manufacturing of specialized equipment required for the enterprises on Edgar Farms.
